Flight to Lukla

Today’s journey starts with a 6am flight into the world’s most dangerous airport: Tenzing-Hillary.

There are plenty of factors that helped this small facility earn this illustrious title… a few being it’s extremely short runway (runway is banked at a 12⁰ angle to assist in slowing down) its surrounding terrain, high altitude, and wind shear. It being dangerous meant i personally loved it and can’t wait for the take off on the way back to Kathmandu where we only get 1700 feet and then it’s a sheer drop off.😁

After everyone's heart rates returned to normal… we (in true hobbit form) met for second breakfast before starting our long journey to the mountain!

The first day of trekking was very low key. An easy 5 miles with roughly 800ft gain, putting us in Phakding where will will be staying the night.

Highlights on the trail are gorgeeeeous mountain views, monasTERIES on the hillsides, giant rocks carved in script (mani stones) and many more cylinder Manis to be spun. The only unique rule to the trail is that you must always keep the mani's to your right hand side.

Tomorrow the climbing begins!!
